Imagination and Ancient Apocalypse
Today I am talking about this documentary on Netflix: “Ancient Apocalypse” which raises controversies from all sides, especially among archaeologists. In this documentary, Graham Hancock shows certain evidence, certainly scattered, of an ancient civilization
This attracts the wrath of many people who quickly call him a crook.
Without going into details, what I can tell you is that the approach displeases the community of scientists. Personally I find it interesting because it is different.
Graham Hancock may be wrong, we don’t know it yet, and he says it himself. Or he could be a pioneer, we don’t know. But he plays outside the rigid rules of scientists and uses a lot:
– The imaginary and dreaming
-The word “if” -> “if this is true, then it could explain this phenomenon”.
– Connections between, myths and legends, different cultures, evidence and finds of different sciences (geology, archeology etc.) as well as literature.
THE PROBLEM IS RIGIDITY
In the end, the problem is not whether it is right or not, but to take the problem by another end. And that’s what he does. The response of scientists:
“This is not how we proceed to prove something. It is the world upside down”.
It bothers them.
But when a method has its limits, you have to try another one (at the risk of offending the great defenders of reason). You can’t always look at what you already see.
And if these discoveries are one day proven, even in part, then the detractors will have passed through the classics 3 truths of Schopenhauer:
– They laughed at it
– They strongly opposed it
– They accept it as obvious.

Again what interests me here is the way of thinking.
I’m not saying what it’s advancing is true.
And I think that it is his approach that interferes with the community of scientists.
My father was a researcher in mathematics and he instilled in me a very pragmatic way of thinking, who calls on reason, but I also learned to reject everything that is not based on solid evidence.
I think this last bit is not always the right way.
Because before having solid proof, there are leads. Sometimes there is even the imagination.
This is what allows us to push the limits of our own mind and our knowledge.
We don’t know everything about everything.
Let’s avoid being arrogant as to our intelligence. We don’t know everything.
And to know what we do not know, you have to start sentences with “if” to open the field of possibilities. Astrophysicists do it a lot because space is not an easy place to explore.
They imagine things to then try to prove them, then calculate if it is possible, to connect the elements.
I therefore advise you to try this way of thinking when you feel blocked:
– Create connections between different areas and disciplines:
Think of different people, approaches, levels of consciousness (recent research on different psychedelics is very interesting), industries, ways of approaching problems.
– Use the word “if” to explore imaginary worlds and new ideas.
You will have all the time later to bring them back to earth with evidence and reason.
– And allow yourself to dream!
Many are embarrassed by this. Either it’s true or you shut up. No! You have the right to dream, to express it, and to do your own research!
Live long and creative! 🖖
