AI: a forced change
We talk a lot about change management and this term has become almost a habit.
But we must not forget that change is difficult… and it is often forced, which leads to discomfort, and sometimes even precariousness.
And by the way, we didn’t ask for anything! Personally, AI fascinates me and I try to use it wisely, but for many, AI is not welcome!
It is a development that we did not choose, upheavals which will change our habits, our vision of things, our work.
Emotions linked to change
AI, with its promises of efficiency and new possibilities will surely be a catalyst for evolution for humanity, but it will not be without breaking eggs, especially if we do not have the right state of mind.
These changes bring the unknown, a loss of direction, and that’s scary.
And when faced with the unknown (like Schopenhauer’s 3 truths) many move from mockery (“AI won’t go anywhere, it’s so bad”), to anger (“it will take our job, we must slow it down”).
Especially when it affects their lives.
And that’s understandable.
We are human, and we have the right to feel and get angry.
It is even recommended, in general. But there is a difference between reacting and succumbing to our emotions, which could prevent us from adapting and making the transition necessary to stay relevant in this transitional time.
Flexibility and creativity: your allies
As Yuval Noah Harrari points out, the future will require us to be able to readjust with flexibility and emotional resilience… but this is only possible if we step back and accept the situation first.
And then, how can we be more flexible and adapt, concretely? With this step back we will have to find new ideas, solutions and perspectives; and it is our creativity that will allow us to do that.
Our creativity is not just this ability to generate artistic or revolutionary ideas; it is also our ability to consider new ways of doing things, to discover unexplored options and to find different solutions to the challenges of our daily lives.
And AI, despite its power, cannot replace this human creativity. Not right away anyway. It can (and I recommend) assist us in implementing our solutions, but the spark of imagination, the ability to dream and explore the improbable is still something to brag about to have exclusively. And today or in the near future, you are going to need it.
With AI, adaptation is key
So, in a world where the future seems unpredictable, with experts offering divergent perspectives on the impact of AI and quantum technology, one thing remains certain: the imperative to adapt.
This necessity is not welcomed in the same way by everyone; for some, it represents an exciting opportunity, while for others, it is a source of apprehension.
But by cultivating our creativity and considering new ways of living and working, we can not only survive this era of change but also create a new balance that can be more interesting.
So take a step back, take a deep breath and imagine what happens next, the field of possibilities is open!
